GRAM

Market data in this article is as of September 22, 2026 (source: CoinGecko). Cryptocurrency prices are highly volatile and figures change over time; please verify the latest information before investing.

Overview

GRAM is the native asset of the public Layer 1 (L1) blockchain The Open Network (TON). It uses Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus and is used to pay network transaction fees (gas), participate in staking, and take part in on-chain governance. Its core technical features are dynamic sharding, asynchronous smart contracts, and low, fixed fees; its biggest advantage is its deep integration with the Telegram platform (Mini Apps, TON Connect, built-in wallet and payments), allowing developers' applications to reach Telegram users directly.

Importantly, GRAM is not a newly issued token — it is the new name for the former Toncoin (TON) following a 2026 rebrand. The blockchain, balances, addresses, and transaction history all remain unchanged. The rename was decided by community governance vote (approximately 81.22% in favor) and officially took effect on June 15, 2026.

This is purely a rename — it does not involve any token swap, migration, cross-chain bridging, or claim process, and holders do not need to take any action. Any message asking you to "convert" or "migrate" your TON tokens should be treated as suspicious (a scam).

Main Uses

  • Paying transaction fees (gas): Paid when making transfers and deploying or calling smart contracts on The Open Network.
  • Staking: Validators and delegators stake GRAM to participate in PoS consensus, help secure the network, and earn rewards.
  • On-chain governance: Holders can participate in governance proposals and voting.
  • Medium of value within the ecosystem: Used across the TON ecosystem for payments, DeFi, Mini Apps, NFTs, Jettons, and more.

According to publicly available information on the official site, a GRAM transfer costs approximately 0.00039 GRAM and a USDt transfer approximately 0.001 GRAM (as stated by the project team).

Market Data (as of September 22, 2026)

  • Price approximately US$1.44; market cap approximately US$4.05B (CoinGecko rank around #31)
  • 24-hour trading volume approximately US$77.3M; FDV approximately US$7.57B
  • All-time high US$8.25 (June 14, 2024); all-time low US$0.5194 (September 20, 2021); current price approximately −82.5% from its all-time high
  • Supply: circulating approximately 2.81B; total supply approximately 5.25B; no maximum supply cap (∞), with inflationary issuance to fund staking rewards (annual inflation rate approximately 1.3%–1.4%)

Important Risk Disclosures

  • High dependence on Telegram (single point of reliance): The network's development, reputation, and governance are closely tied to a single company. In 2026, Telegram further took over leadership and became the largest validator, so Telegram's operations, compliance, regulatory, or personnel changes could all affect GRAM.
  • Regulatory and legal history: In 2019–2020, the U.S. SEC sued over the 2018 "Gram" token sale, alleging it constituted an unregistered securities offering; the matter ultimately concluded with a settlement and refunds. CoinGecko flags it under the "Alleged SEC Securities" category. The regulatory environment for crypto assets continues to evolve, and future policy changes may affect its circulation and trading.
  • No supply cap and inflationary dilution: GRAM/TON has no hard supply cap and uses inflationary issuance to fund staking rewards, which over the long term may have a dilutive effect on holders who do not stake.
  • Validator concentration: With Telegram as the largest validator, validation power and governance influence may become concentrated, potentially reducing the degree of decentralization.
  • Market confusion caused by the rename: Exchanges, wallets, and data platforms updated their labels on different timelines, and the fact that the rename "requires no migration" may be exploited by scammers (impersonating a "token swap / migration" to induce transfers).
  • Price volatility and liquidity risk: Crypto assets are highly volatile, and invested principal may be substantially eroded.
